On June 17, Valentino presented its Resort 2025 collection. This men’s and women’s collection, consisting of 171 looks, is the debut of new Creative Director Alessandro Michele, who took over in April of this year.
During his time at Gucci, Michele has infused the idea of maximalism into his creations and has successfully redefined Maison’s image by using an abundance of different patterns, colors, and materials. However, Michele’s work for Valentino is not a reintroduction of the same design approach. This first collection, dubbed “Avant le Débuts,” was a tribute to Michele’s fascination with the Valentino Garavani archives and a celebration of the historical elegance of the Italian fashion house.
About the collection, Michele confesses that he was inspired by Valentino Garavani’s “Sfilata Bianca (White Collection)” from 1968. The richness of its cultural and symbolic heritage, the sense of wonder it has always produced, and the precious identity that its founders Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti have given it with lavish affection. These have always been an indispensable source of inspiration for Michele, who has reinterpreted the Maison’s DNA with his creative vision.
The looks unveiled are more feminine, gentle, and serene, retaining Michele’s maximalist styling, but blending it with the Maison’s aesthetic codes deeply and beautifully. Clothing featured glamorous vintage elements such as delicate lace, ruffles, polka dots, embroidered capes and fur-cuffed coats, and head-wrapped turbans, while accessories included layers of pearls, brooches, and corsages, gloves, and round sunglasses, layered belts added maximalist approach to the collection.
Initially, the brand had indicated that it would not participate in the June presentation of the menswear and haute couture collections, however, it decided that it would be better to showcase its products before the Resort 2025 collection hits store shelves in October, and this lookbook was released on short notice.
The runway show of Michele’s first Valentino Spring/Summer 2025 collection is scheduled to take place in Paris on September 29.
