On January 5, Y’s—the first brand created by Yohji Yamamoto—unveiled its latest photo series for the 2026 Spring/Summer collection, TOKYO: HELD MOVEMENT, photographed in Tokyo by Max Vadukul.

Set against the streets of Tokyo, the series explores the relationship between people and the urban environment through Vadukul’s signature monochrome lens. The Y’s garments, captured in the midst of the city, appear almost motionless at first glance, yet they contain an inner intensity—radiating a presence that subtly pushes against the surrounding air.

The Tension and Will Expressed in “HELD MOVEMENT”

“HELD MOVEMENT” is not concerned with choreography or the aesthetic beauty of posed motion. Instead, it captures the moment when the body is forced to stop—when willpower and tension persist under pressure. In these suspended instants, a quiet sense of resolve emerges. Each frame carries the spirit of Y’s, breathing calmly beneath the surface.

What rises from the images is a certain strength that exists between breath and release. Even under restraint, the physical awareness of the body remains intact. This state of tension—held, unresolved—defines the essence of the series.
