On August 14, Pharrell Williams, the music producer, artist, and designer, unveiled his new creative hub and brand, VIRGINIA. Named after his home state, the initiative is envisioned as a new destination where music, fashion, design, and community intersect.
For Williams, VIRGINIA serves not only as a creative alias but also as a space for experimentation, storytelling, and direct connection with people. Announcing the launch, he stated, “Virginia is where I’m from, but it’s also who I am creatively. It’s my space to dream, and a way to connect with people who are dreaming too.”
The new brand is set to support a wide range of activities, from music releases and live events to exclusive merchandise drops and early access to collaborations. To mark its debut, the official website Blackyachtrock.com launched with a collection of limited-edition items, including apparel, swimwear, beach gear, accessories, and home goods. The site also features virtual karaoke, music content, and artwork by Virginia-based artist Sam Clayman.
In addition, Pharrell’s latest adidas design, the VIRGINIA Adistar Jellyfish sneakers, was released exclusively through the platform yesterday as an early drop ahead of its global launch.
Furthermore, Pharrell officially designated his anonymously released 2024 album, BLACK YACHT ROCK VOL 1 CITY OF LIMITLESS ACCESS, as the first music project under the VIRGINIA name. The record reinterprets the 1970s–80s “yacht rock” genre through the lens of Black musicality and Williams’ personal memories. Its title, Black Yacht Rock, also inspired the domain name of the official website, making the album a symbolic cornerstone of the brand’s identity.
Since 2023, Williams has served as Creative Director of Louis Vuitton Men’s while simultaneously running ventures such as JOOPITER auctions and his ongoing collaborations with adidas. Against this backdrop, VIRGINIA emerges as a platform deeply rooted in his origins, poised to serve as a central hub for his future creative endeavors.
