On September 17, French luxury conglomerate Kering announced the appointment of Francesca Bellettini as President and Chief Executive Officer of Gucci. Bellettini will report directly to Kering’s CEO, Luca de Meo, and lead the brand under the group’s new organizational structure.
In a statement, Luca de Meo said, “At this pivotal moment, I intend to build a leaner and clearer organization in which the best talent drive our Houses forward. Gucci, as the flagship of our Group, deserves the sharpest focus, and Francesca — one of the most seasoned and respected professionals in our industry — will bring the leadership and flawless execution needed to restore the brand to its rightful place.”
Upon her appointment as CEO, Bellettini commented, “I am truly honored to take on direct responsibility for Gucci, one of the world’s most iconic luxury Houses. I look forward to working under the leadership of Luca de Meo, whose innovative and fresh perspective inspires us to push boundaries. I’m excited to embark on this new challenge together with the whole Gucci team and alongside Demna, whose creativity I have always admired.”
As part of the announcement, Jean-Marc Duplaix will continue to serve as Group COO of Kering, while the Deputy CEO positions within the group will be eliminated, reflecting a move toward organizational simplification.
Bellettini previously held roles at Gucci and Bottega Veneta before being appointed CEO of Saint Laurent in 2013. In 2023, she became Kering’s Deputy CEO in charge of brand development, supporting the group’s overall growth. She began her career as an investment banker in London and later worked in business development at the Prada Group, as well as serving as Operations Manager at Helmut Lang.
Gucci, which has been struggling with a slowdown in recent years, is seen as Kering’s most critical brand to revitalize. This leadership change marks what many consider to be the first step in its turnaround.
