On June 16, French luxury group Kering announced the appointment of Luca de Meo as its new Chief Executive Officer.
With this move, the group will adopt a new governance structure that clearly separates the roles of Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. François-Henri Pinault, who currently serves as both Chairman and CEO, will step down from the CEO role and focus solely on his responsibilities as Chairman.
This leadership transition marks a strategic decision for Kering as the group enters a new phase of growth, and represents a significant step in modernizing its governance structure.
The Next Chapter for Kering
Luca de Meo is a seasoned business leader with more than 30 years of experience in the European automotive industry, having held key executive roles at Renault, Volkswagen, and Fiat. His broad international perspective and proven expertise in brand strategy have earned him high regard, making him the ideal choice to steer Kering—a titan of the fashion world—into its next era.
Pinault stated, “His experience at the helm of an international listed group, his sharp understanding of brands, and his sense of a strong and respectful corporate culture convinced me that he is the leader I was looking for to bring a new vision and steer this chapter in our Group’s history. It is with complete confidence that I am handing over the leadership of Kering and our teams to Luca.”
De Meo also commented, “I am approaching this new professional challenge with enthusiasm, eagerness, and confidence, inspired by the strength of the Group’s brands and the expertise of its people. I am convinced that together we will continue to make Kering an essential player in the luxury industry,” expressing optimism and determination for the future.
As the luxury industry faces complex challenges, including globalization, Gen Z marketing, and sustainability, all eyes are on how Kering—home to iconic brands such as Gucci, Saint Laurent, and Balenciaga—will navigate this shifting landscape.
In 2024, Kering employed approximately 47,000 people and reported revenue of €17.2 billion. Under its guiding philosophy, “Creativity is our Legacy,” the group remains committed to blending exceptional craftsmanship with cultural value across its portfolio of brands.
