David Bailey, one of Britain’s most celebrated photographers, will open his first major solo exhibition in Spain on June 28, 2025. Titled David Bailey’s Changing Fashion, the exhibition is organized by the Marta Ortega Pérez (MOP) Foundation and will be held at the foundation’s exhibition space in A Coruña, Galicia.

Bailey, a pivotal figure in the cultural revolution that swept through 1960s London, reshaped the worlds of fashion and portrait photography. The exhibition will present more than 140 works, capturing the spirit and energy of London in the 1960s and 1970s — a vibrant era seen through Bailey’s distinctive lens.

Speaking about the exhibition, Marta Ortega Pérez commented: “Without question, David Bailey is a master of a visual language that is uniquely his own. From the early days, he consistently backed his own vision, breaking the rules of fashion photography and inventing new ones at will.”

David Bailey’s Changing Fashion marks the fifth installment in the MOP Foundation’s world-class exhibition series. Previous exhibitions have celebrated the works of Peter Lindbergh, Steven Meisel, Helmut Newton, and Irving Penn, cementing the foundation’s reputation as a premier venue for experiencing the masterpieces of fashion and portrait photography.

The exhibition will open with a striking series of photographs of Jean Shrimpton, the iconic model and Bailey’s muse, who together defined the look of the 1960s. It will also shine a spotlight on Bailey’s landmark 1965 portfolio, Box of Pin-Ups, featuring 36 portraits of London’s glittering celebrities, including Mick Jagger, Michael Caine, and the infamous Kray twins — a vivid portrayal of the era’s cultural elite.

Adding depth to the experience, the exhibition will showcase archival materials that evoke the distinctive atmosphere of Bailey’s studio. Diana Vreeland, then editor at Vogue, once described the contrast by saying: “‘Irving Penn’s studio is like a cathedral; David Bailey’s studio is like a nightclub.”

The show will also feature a specially commissioned film reimagining Box of Pin-Ups, along with a takeaway publication inspired by Ritz magazine, the celebrity, fashion, and gossip magazine co-founded by Bailey and David Litchfield in 1976.
