On June 24, beauty brand Glossier, a favorite among millennial consumers, announced that its Chief Executive Officer, Kyle Leahy, will step down from her role at the end of 2025. Leahy, who took over as CEO in 2022 following the departure of founder Emily Weiss, has led the company through a period of transformation and renewed growth over the past three years.

In a company-wide email sent to employees, Leahy shared news of her upcoming departure. She also addressed the announcement via LinkedIn, writing: “Glossier is larger and more profitable than ever before,” and adding, “With that foundation in place, the Board and I believe this is the right moment to bring in the next CEO to lead a new phase of growth.”

Founder Emily Weiss also issued a statement, saying, “I am so grateful for Kyle’s leadership and stewardship of Glossier. She deeply understands how unique and special this brand is, and was exactly the right person to serve as our CEO as we looked to evolve our business model for sustainability and profitability, and scale our brand.”

Leahy will continue to serve on Glossier’s board of directors and work with Weiss to find her successor. Weiss, meanwhile, will remain in her current position as executive chairwoman and does not plan to return to the CEO role.

After experiencing a period of soaring popularity, Glossier faced a slowdown in growth and concerns over profitability. However, in February 2023, the company made a pivotal strategic shift by launching in Sephora, marking its first major departure from a direct-to-consumer model. By October of that year, industry insiders estimated that Glossier had reached annual sales of approximately $275 million, signaling a strong rebound in its business trajectory.

Reflecting on her time at Glossier, Leahy commented, “It has been such an honor to work with this incredible team – a resilient and remarkable group of talented individuals who continue to innovate and inspire,” adding, “So much opportunity still lies ahead – the future is bright .”

Glossier is set to enter the French market this month through its ongoing partnership with Sephora.
