Heritage & Origins
Marni was founded in 1994 by Swiss-born designer Consuelo Castiglioni, originally as a fur and accessories line before expanding into ready-to-wear. Castiglioni’s eccentric, intellectually driven approach to fashion distinguished Marni from Milan’s more commercially focused luxury houses. The brand quickly attracted a devoted following among women who valued originality and artistic expression over conventional glamour.
Design Philosophy & Innovation
Under Creative Director Francesco Risso, who took the helm in 2016, Marni has embraced a more experimental and emotionally charged design language while honoring the brand’s tradition of unexpected beauty. The collections are characterized by clashing prints, unconventional color combinations, and a handcrafted sensibility that celebrates imperfection. Marni represents fashion as a form of personal expression rather than conformity.
Cultural Impact & Legacy
Marni occupies a unique position in the fashion landscape as a brand that is simultaneously commercial and avant-garde. The house’s influence on the broader industry’s embrace of eccentricity and artisanal imperfection is significant. Under OTB Group’s ownership, Marni continues to grow its global presence while maintaining the creative independence that defines its identity.
