The Queen of Punk
Vivienne Westwood, along with Malcolm McLaren, invented punk fashion in the 1970s from their legendary Kings Road shop, SEX. From bondage trousers and safety pins to the iconic tartan and orb logo, Westwood created a visual language of rebellion that continues to influence fashion and popular culture.
From Punk to Couture
Westwood evolved from punk provocateur to respected couturier, drawing on historical references from 18th-century tailoring to classical painting. Her distinctive draping techniques, use of tartan, and subversive approach to traditional British style created a unique aesthetic that bridged street culture and high fashion.
Activism & Legacy
Following Westwood’s death in December 2022, her husband and longtime creative partner Andreas Kronthaler continues the brand’s legacy. Westwood’s passionate environmental activism and her belief that fashion should provoke thought and action remain central to the brand’s identity.
