Italian luxury house Giorgio Armani is reportedly exploring a plan to divide a future minority stake sale equally among LVMH, L’Oréal, and EssilorLuxottica following the death of founder Giorgio Armani.

The development was first reported by Italian newspaper la Repubblica and subsequently picked up by multiple international media outlets. According to the reports, Armani had identified the three companies as preferred long-term shareholders prior to his passing, with an initial 15 percent stake sale expected to take place within 12 to 18 months after the founder’s death.

Each of the three groups already maintains an established relationship with the Armani business. L’Oréal oversees the brand’s beauty division through a long-standing licensing partnership, while EssilorLuxottica manages its eyewear operations. LVMH, meanwhile, has frequently been viewed by industry observers as a potential strategic luxury partner for the Italian fashion house.

At the center of the discussions is a structure that would split the proposed 15 percent stake into three equal portions, allowing all three companies to participate in the company’s ownership structure from the outset. The approach is reportedly intended to maintain strategic balance among the groups during the early stages of the transition.

According to la Repubblica, Giorgio Armani CEO Giuseppe Marsocci is currently preparing a five-year business plan while also selecting advisers to oversee the potential transaction. Those advisers are expected to present the company’s long-term strategic roadmap to prospective investors before any formal sale process begins.

Giorgio Armani has not issued an official comment regarding the reports.

Still, the possibility of outside shareholders entering one of Italy’s last major independent luxury houses marks a potentially pivotal moment for the future of the Armani empire — a company that has remained firmly under founder control for decades.
