On September 11, Michael Kors opened New York Fashion Week by unveiling the Spring/Summer 2026 collection. The front row sparkled with the presence of Gwyneth Paltrow, Olivia Wilde, Suki Waterhouse, and Ariana DeBose, adding to the electric atmosphere.

The venue, Chelsea’s Terminal Warehouse, was transformed with wood paneling, terracotta accents, towering cacti, and sculptural elements reminiscent of nature, evoking the spirit of the desert in the heart of the city. Inspired by the designer’s own beach house, the space symbolically embodied this season’s theme of Earthy Elegance.
“The simple truth is that escapism helps us tremendously,” Kors said. “So many of us live urban lives, and when you travel, you learn about yourself, you learn about other people, you learn about life. It’s nature that always knocks us out, but balanced with elegance and sophistication—that’s everything I want this collection to convey.”
In an era marked by climate change and social instability, what we truly seek is not mere escape from reality but an “alternative landscape” that accompanies everyday life. Kors entrusted this idea to the desert as a symbol, presenting the ruggedness and beauty of nature blended seamlessly with urban refinement. In doing so, he revealed what felt like fashion’s very essence—the power of clothing to guide us toward new perspectives.
The runway was filled with looks that balanced lightness and relaxed sensuality. To the rhythm of music composed by Sebastien Perrin, pareos, pajama-inspired ensembles, and draped culottes anchored in liquid draping and soft tailoring made their entrance. Flowing caftans that caught the air with each step, fluid tunics, and paillettes veiled in sheer silk voile all emphasized the breezy spirit of the season.

Suits emerged as key pieces embodying this season’s Earthy Elegance. Jackets ranged from lapel-free minimalist cuts to oversized double-breasted silhouettes, their softly dropped shoulders exuding a sense of ease. Paired with shorts or wide trousers, these designs softened the rigidity of traditional business suits, reimagining them into everyday wear. Styled with bralettes or sheer layers underneath, the tailoring merged masculine structure with sensual nuance—an offering that could aptly be called a “resort suit for the city.”

The color palette centered on earthy shades such as branch, espresso, and ecru, layered with sunset tones like palomino, cashew, quartz, and guava, elegantly evoking the arrival of spring and the transitions of nature.
Accessories carried a striking balance of craftsmanship and sophistication. Long fringes on earrings and bags swayed with each step, creating a rhythm that beautifully echoed the garments’ flowing drapes. Bags ranged from braided leather market totes to fringed clutches and mesh carryalls, each designed to command presence whether on urban streets or in faraway destinations. Oversized pendant necklaces and sculptural leather designs added bold accents to simple dresses and jackets, while footwear—from flat sandals to heeled mules—completed the looks with both decorative harmony and everyday practicality.

What Michael Kors embodied with his Spring/Summer 2026 collection was a new form of escapism—one that fuses the vitality of nature with the sophistication of urban life. Clothes that carry both the serenity of the desert and the dynamism of the city emerged graceful yet powerful, a vivid symbol of the season itself.
