Parisian Chic
Celine was founded by Celine Vipiana in 1945 as a made-to-measure children’s shoe business, gradually expanding into women’s ready-to-wear and accessories. The house became synonymous with understated Parisian chic under the creative direction of Phoebe Philo from 2008 to 2018, whose minimalist designs and championing of intellectual femininity created a devoted, almost cult-like following.
Hedi Slimane Era
Hedi Slimane’s appointment in 2018 brought a dramatic shift, dropping the accent from the name and introducing a rock-influenced, youth-oriented aesthetic. His tenure saw significant revenue growth, particularly in menswear and perfume, though his vision represented a sharp departure from Philo’s legacy.
New Direction
With the appointment of Michael Rider in 2024, Celine enters a new creative chapter. The brand maintains its position as one of LVMH’s most commercially important fashion houses, with strong leather goods, ready-to-wear, and a growing fragrance business.
