The Maestro of Shoes
Manolo Blahnik, born in the Canary Islands and encouraged by Diana Vreeland to pursue shoe design, opened his first shop on London’s Chelsea Old Church Street in 1973. Over five decades, he has become the world’s most revered shoe designer, creating footwear that combines architectural precision with artistic beauty.
Cultural Icon
Blahnik’s shoes have been immortalized in popular culture, most notably through Sex and the City, where the Hangisi satin pump with its ornate buckle became arguably the most famous shoe in television history. His designs have been collected by museums and worn by everyone from Princess Diana to Rihanna.
Artisanal Tradition
At over 80 years old, Blahnik continues to personally design every shoe, sketching each by hand and overseeing production at his Italian factory. This deeply personal, artisanal approach, combined with the brand’s family ownership, makes Manolo Blahnik one of the last truly independent luxury houses.
