Glamour & Boldness
Gianni Versace founded his fashion house in Milan in 1978, creating a world of unabashed glamour, bold prints, and vibrant color that celebrated the human body. His fusion of classical Greco-Roman motifs with rock-and-roll energy, epitomized by the iconic Medusa logo, defined an era and attracted a devoted clientele of supermodels and celebrities.
Donatella’s Legacy
Following Gianni’s tragic murder in 1997, his sister Donatella Versace took the creative helm, preserving the house’s DNA of confident sexuality and bold design while evolving it for new generations. Her tenure produced iconic moments including the jungle-print dress worn by Jennifer Lopez at the 2000 Grammy Awards.
New Ownership
Versace was acquired by Capri Holdings (formerly Michael Kors Holdings) in 2018 for $2.1 billion. The brand continues to occupy a distinctive position in the luxury landscape, known for its maximalist aesthetic, celebrity associations, and instantly recognizable design language.
