Coperni Enters Judicial Reorganization Proceedings

Coperni

French fashion brand Coperni announced that it has entered judicial reorganization proceedings following a decision by the Paris Commercial Court on June 11. The move places Coperni SAS, the company responsible for the brand’s creative and operational activities, under court protection while it continues operating and works toward financial restructuring.

Known for its innovative fusion of fashion and technology, Coperni has become one of the most closely watched brands of its generation. However, after canceling its planned Paris Fashion Week show in March 2026, speculation began to circulate throughout the industry regarding the brand’s future.

Summary

  • Coperni announced that it has entered judicial reorganization proceedings under the protection of the Paris Commercial Court.
  • The brand says the situation stems from a dispute with majority shareholder and exclusive distributor Tomorrow Group.
  • The court-supervised process is expected to support business continuity and employee protection while restructuring takes place.
  • Founders Arnaud Vaillant and Sébastien Meyer remain committed to rebuilding the brand and investing in its future.

Court Protection to Support Business Continuity

The proceedings apply specifically to Coperni SAS, the French operating company that oversees the brand’s creative and business operations.

Under France’s judicial reorganization framework, the company can continue its activities while restructuring its financial obligations. The process is designed to preserve operations and protect jobs rather than liquidate the business.

In an official statement, Coperni co-founder and president Arnaud Vaillant said: “By opening these proceedings, the court allows Coperni to keep creating, to protect its teams, and to build its future.”

Tensions With Tomorrow Group Come to Light

According to the brand, the financial difficulties stem from a dispute with Tomorrow Group, Coperni’s majority shareholder and exclusive distributor.

Since 2019, Coperni has expanded rapidly with the support of Tomorrow. In its statement, the brand claims that Tomorrow stopped transferring funds owed to Coperni for several months, resulting in significant cash-flow challenges.

Tomorrow was responsible for managing the brand’s wholesale business, receiving revenues, and distributing royalties and other payments according to contractual agreements. However, the group’s financial position reportedly deteriorated amid a broader slowdown in the wholesale fashion market and challenging industry conditions.

Founders Pursue a Path Back to Independence

Coperni was founded in 2013 by Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant. When the brand was relaunched in 2019, the founders partnered with Tomorrow Group to accelerate its international growth.

The situation changed significantly in March 2026 when Tomorrow was sold to Italian investment company Progetto 11.

Industry sources suggest that Vaillant and Meyer have been in discussions with Progetto 11 regarding the possibility of regaining control of the brand. With judicial reorganization proceedings now providing a framework for business continuity, a founder-led recovery strategy appears increasingly plausible.

At the Intersection of Design, Technology, and Culture

Over the past several years, Coperni has built a reputation for pushing the boundaries between fashion and technology.

From staging a runway show at Disneyland Paris to creating the viral Spray Dress performance—in which a dress was formed directly on a model’s body using sprayed fabric technology—the brand has consistently challenged conventional ideas of fashion presentation.

Coperni has also explored material innovation, unveiling the Air Swipe Bag, a special edition of its iconic Swipe Bag made with NASA-developed aerogel, one of the lightest solid materials ever created.

Through these projects, the brand has established itself as a global symbol of technology-driven creativity within contemporary fashion.

At the conclusion of the statement, Vaillant reflected on the brand’s future: “Since 2019, Coperni has embodied a contemporary vision of French fashion at the intersection of design, technology, and culture. This story continues today.”
