Tech Pack Components
A complete tech pack includes: flat sketches (front, back, detail views with callouts), bill of materials (all fabrics, trims, hardware, labels, threads with supplier references), measurements and grading (specs for each size, tolerance ranges), construction details (stitch types, seam allowances, assembly sequence), color specifications (Pantone references, lab dip approval records), packaging requirements, labeling (care labels, brand labels, hang tags), and quality inspection criteria.
Why Tech Packs Matter
The tech pack is the critical communication bridge between design and manufacturing — especially when production occurs thousands of miles from the design studio, crossing language and cultural barriers. A precise, comprehensive tech pack reduces sampling rounds (saving 2-4 weeks per round), prevents costly production errors, ensures consistency across production runs, and provides the documentation trail necessary for quality assurance and dispute resolution.
Digital Tech Packs
Traditional PDF tech packs are being replaced by cloud-based platforms (Techpacker, Backbone PLM, WFX) that enable real-time collaboration between design and production teams, automatic version control, integrated material libraries, and digital measurement tables that automatically calculate grading. This digitization reduces errors, accelerates the development cycle, and creates a searchable archive of product specifications.
