The 13-stamp series includes imagery such as the American flag, Jackie Robinson’s baseball glove, a weathered pickup truck, a lighthouse, a barn, a loyal dog, a racing yacht, a teddy bear, a hamburger, and horses running across open fields — each symbolizing different aspects of American life and values.
At the center of the stamp sheet sits a special 13th stamp featuring Ralph Lauren’s iconic American flag sweater alongside the text “1776 to 2026,” commemorating the nation’s semiquincentennial.
USPS also unveiled its 2026 Mail Use Stamp, inspired by the artistic direction of the “American Icons” collection. The design features a detailed image of Ralph Lauren’s signature knitted American flag sweater and will be issued as a standard everyday postage stamp.
The stamp will be sold in sheets, booklets, and coils, becoming part of USPS’s widely circulated regular mail program.
Commemorative Capsule Collection to Launch Worldwide
The official first-day-of-issue ceremony will take place on June 9 at the historic James A. Farley Post Office in New York City. On the same day, Ralph Lauren will release a commemorative capsule collection inspired by the stamp series.
The collection will reinterpret the brand’s signature American flag sweater motif while also featuring classic polo shirts and baseball caps that reflect the spirit of the “American Icons” project.
Ralph Lauren commented on the project, stating: “In celebration of America’s 250th birthday, it is an honor to have been invited by the U.S. Postal Service to curate this special stamp collection. I love America, and these images symbolize the many ideals and aspirations that bind us together. They are icons of our country—authentic, timeless, and passed down through generations—and reflect the dream of a better life that has always inspired me.”
Shyla Holman, Vice President of Marketing at USPS, also commented, “We and the United States share a 250-year history rooted in connecting the nation,” adding, “We are honored to ask legendary American designer Ralph Lauren to curate the ‘American Icons’ stamps. His remarkable visual archive beautifully captures the aspirational spirit and shared values that have united Americans since before the founding of our nation.”
Ralph Lauren’s Longstanding Relationship With American Heritage
Born in the Bronx, New York, in 1939, Ralph Lauren began his career selling neckties before building one of the world’s most recognizable lifestyle brands. In 2025, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.
Throughout his career, Lauren has also been deeply involved in preserving American cultural heritage, including supporting the conservation of the historic 1813 flag that later inspired “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
More than a stamp collection, “American Icons” functions as a broader cultural statement about the idea of America itself. Through Ralph Lauren’s lens, fashion, nostalgia, craftsmanship, history, and national identity converge into a unified visual language celebrating the country’s enduring spirit.
