Florentine Craftsmanship
Founded in Florence in 1921 by Guccio Gucci, the house began as a purveyor of fine leather goods inspired by the luggage Gucci had admired while working at the Savoy Hotel in London. The brand’s equestrian-inspired designs, including the iconic horsebit hardware and green-red-green stripe, became hallmarks of Italian luxury that endure to this day.
Creative Renaissance
Gucci has experienced several creative reinventions, most notably under Tom Ford in the 1990s, who transformed it into a provocative symbol of sex appeal and glamour, and Alessandro Michele, whose maximalist vision from 2015 to 2022 made Gucci the most searched fashion brand in the world. Current creative director Sabato De Sarno has introduced a new era of refined sensuality he calls ‘Gucci Ancora.’
Market Position
As the flagship brand of French luxury conglomerate Kering, Gucci remains one of the world’s most commercially successful fashion houses. The brand’s revenue, while experiencing some fluctuation in recent years, continues to place it firmly among the top five luxury brands globally.
