SK-II is a Japanese luxury skincare brand that originated in the 1980s. The brand was born from a discovery at a sake brewery in Japan, where scientists noticed that elderly workers had remarkably youthful hands despite their aged faces.
This observation led to the identification of Pitera, a proprietary bio-ingredient derived from yeast fermentation, which became the cornerstone of SK-II’s entire product line. The Facial Treatment Essence, containing over 90% Pitera, is the brand’s hero product.
Part of Procter & Gamble’s prestige beauty portfolio, SK-II has become one of the most prestigious skincare brands in Asia and globally, particularly popular in Japan, China, and Southeast Asia.
