Chanel has announced that its 2027 Métiers d’Art show will take place in Rome on December 2, 2026. The exact venue is set to be revealed at a later date.
The upcoming presentation will mark the first Chanel show in Italy under the creative direction of Matthieu Blazy. Since taking the helm of the house at the end of 2024, Blazy has received strong acclaim from both industry critics and clients for his vision for the maison.
First launched in 2002, the Métiers d’Art collection is an annual showcase dedicated to celebrating the exceptional craftsmanship and artisanal ateliers behind Chanel’s creations. The traveling show format has brought the house to cities around the world, including New York, Tokyo, Dakar, and Manchester in recent years, each chosen for its unique cultural identity.
Blazy’s first Métiers d’Art show for Chanel was presented in New York in December 2025. The runway presentation, staged within a subway-inspired setting, drew significant attention for its fusion of Chanel’s craftsmanship with the energy of urban culture.

At the same time, Rome holds a longstanding historical connection to the house. Founder Gabrielle Chanel first visited Italy in 1920 and continued to spend time in Rome throughout her life, developing a deep appreciation for Renaissance art, antique culture, and Italian cinema.
In the official announcement, the house stated: “The couturière stayed in Rome on several occasions, deepening her love of Renaissance painting, antique art and Italian cinema. Her Italian friendships fueled her imagination and made a strong impression on her work.”
The visual accompanying the announcement also featured Gabrielle Chanel alongside Italian filmmaker Luchino Visconti. The two collaborated on the 1962 anthology film Boccaccio ’70, for which Chanel designed costumes for actress Romy Schneider.
Chanel’s relationship with Rome can also be traced through its previous Métiers d’Art presentations. In 2015, the house unveiled a Métiers d’Art show at Rome’s famed Cinecittà film studios under the direction of the late Karl Lagerfeld. The presentation became widely recognized for blending cinematic culture with haute couture spectacle.
Against the backdrop of Rome’s layered artistic and historical legacy, anticipation is already building around how Matthieu Blazy will reinterpret Chanel’s craftsmanship and heritage for the house’s next Métiers d’Art chapter.
