On May 13, 2026, Dior unveiled its Cruise 2027 collection at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), marking Jonathan Anderson’s latest vision for the House. Centered around Dior’s longstanding relationship with Hollywood, the collection explored the intersection of cinema, art, Californian culture, and the dreamlike mythology of Los Angeles.
Revisiting Dior’s Hollywood Legacy
One of the key starting points for the collection was a Haute Couture Spring/Summer 1949 jacket worn by Marlene Dietrich in Stage Fright, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Through this reference, Anderson revisited the House’s longstanding ties to cinema and Hollywood costume culture, reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens.
The collection also drew inspiration from the California poppy, the state flower of California, with floral motifs appearing repeatedly throughout the show. Together, these references created a narrative that blurred fantasy and reality, glamour and ease — much like Los Angeles itself.
Held at Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the show further emphasized the connection between fashion, architecture, film, and contemporary art. Bathed in warm evening light, the runway presentation carried a distinctly cinematic atmosphere that reflected both nostalgia and futurism.
A Portrait of LA’s Creative Characters
The collection imagined a cast of creative personalities living within the cultural landscape of Los Angeles. Bouclé wool jackets with frayed cuffs, lace-embroidered evening dresses, patchwork scarves, and shearling coats combined couture refinement with a relaxed West Coast sensibility.
Menswear also played a significant role throughout the collection. Sequinned tailoring shimmered under the lights, while pyjama shirts paired with leather trousers evoked the effortless glamour of musicians, actors, and artists associated with LA’s cultural history.
A collaboration with American artist Ed Ruscha introduced a series of archetypal American shirts featuring elements from existing artworks. The collaboration reinforced Anderson’s ongoing interest in dissolving the boundaries between art, fashion, and visual culture.
Accessories Inspired by Cinematic Glamour
The collection introduced several new handbag silhouettes, including a streamlined reinterpretation of Dior’s iconic Saddle bag. Other highlights included a bucket bag adorned with a Dior Médaillon and a shoulder bag featuring a crescent-shaped base.
Shoes throughout the collection were embellished with flowers and sequins, adding a theatrical, almost cinematic finish to the looks. Across both ready-to-wear and accessories, the collection balanced couture-level embellishment with the casual sensuality often associated with California style.
