Paris-based couture house Giambattista Valli has entered a new chapter. On May 20, founder Giambattista Valli announced that he had regained full ownership of his namesake brand from investment company “Artémis,” returning once again as the sole owner of the Maison.

The announcement was made through an official joint statement released by both Artémis and the Maison. While the financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, the deal marks the end of a long-standing partnership between the designer and the Pinault family’s investment company, which had supported the brand for years.

Summary

  • Giambattista Valli has regained full ownership of his brand from Artémis
  • Artémis first invested in the Maison in 2017 and took majority control in 2021
  • In recent months, the brand had suspended runway presentations amid restructuring efforts
  • Valli will now continue operating the Maison independently

A New Chapter Beyond Artémis

Giambattista Valli founded his eponymous label in Paris in 2005. Known for his romantic and sculptural couture aesthetic, the designer became an official member of the Haute Couture calendar in 2011.

Artémis, led by François-Henri Pinault, is the Pinault family’s investment holding company with interests spanning luxury, art, hospitality, media, and sports. Its portfolio includes companies such as Kering, Christie’s, and Courrèges.

Artémis first became a shareholder in Giambattista Valli in 2017 before taking majority control of the Maison in 2021. Since then, the group has supported the expansion of the brand’s collections, organizational structure, and international presence.

However, recent years have seen increasing restructuring efforts surrounding the Maison. Earlier this year, the brand canceled its Haute Couture presentation in January, followed by the suspension of its Autumn/Winter 2026 ready-to-wear presentation during Paris Fashion Week in March. According to several international media reports, Artémis had also appointed Rothschild & Co to explore potential buyers for the business.

Commenting on the agreement, François-Henri Pinault stated: “We have been delighted to support Mr Giambattista Valli and to stand behind such a singular and demanding creative vision. After years of an inspiring collaboration, a new chapter is now opening in this entrepreneurial adventure, and I wish Giambattista every success in the next stage of his journey.”

Giambattista Valli also shared the following statement: “I would like to thank Artémis for its support and commitment to the Maison throughout all these years. This agreement now enables me to fully regain control of my brand and to pursue its development with enthusiasm and energy.”

The Future of a Maison Reclaiming Its Independence

One of the central themes emphasized throughout the announcement was “freedom” and “independence.” According to the official statement, Valli will continue to lead the Maison independently, remaining faithful to the spirit of creative freedom that has long defined his work.

Across the luxury industry, many independent labels have sought growth through integration into larger groups. At the same time, there has also been a growing movement of founder-led brands reclaiming creative and operational independence.

For years, Giambattista Valli has built a distinct vision rooted in romanticism, couture craftsmanship, and unapologetic femininity. More than a financial transition, this latest move signals a symbolic return to the Maison’s original identity — one centered on creative freedom and personal artistic expression.
