On October 3, Givenchy presented its Spring/Summer 2026 collection at Paris Fashion Week. This marks the second season under the artistic direction of Sarah Burton, whose central theme this season is “Powerful Femininity.”

“I wanted to explore the strengths of women through feminine archetypes. It started with peeling back the structure of tailoring to reveal skin and a sense of lightness and ease — and then exploring the female vocabulary of dress and undress,” Burton said.

Last season, Burton paid homage to Hubert de Givenchy’s debut collection in 1952, reviving the maison’s origins through precision tailoring and craftsmanship. This season, she took the idea further—dismantling “clothing as armor” to create garments that gently liberate both the body and spirit of women.

From Construction to Deconstruction — Redefining Femininity

The show opened with a pared-back satin little black dress and a viscose knit cocoon bodysuit. Paired with ballet flats, the looks recalled a quiet innocence that lingers within the sophistication of womanhood. Following them, a sliced wool tailored dress introduced Burton’s signature architectural approach, softened by fluidity. Bra tops peeking through the back and subtle slits and twists symbolized a deliberate unraveling of “femininity” as a fixed concept—only to reweave it into something new.

This season, materials such as feathers, metal, tulle, and mesh interacted harmoniously, forming a new contour of femininity. A golden-feathered top and draped skirt, reminiscent of sunflowers, exuded warmth and vitality as the fabric shimmered with light. Meanwhile, a full-body look adorned with silver square motifs suggested both protection and liberation—its armor-like form revealing a tension between restraint and freedom.

Balloon-shaped tulle dresses in delicate nude pink and vivid red conveyed grace and passion, serenity and movement—capturing the subtle emotional oscillations of womanhood with poetic sensitivity.

Among the most striking looks were the butter-yellow wrap dress, the black leather cutaway bra and wrap skirt, and the bow bustier dress. Each piece radiated a sensuality that felt fused with the skin, embodying both strength and self-possession—garments that protect not through rigidity, but through confidence.

The trench coats, presented in red satin and beige cotton gabardine, reimagined traditional menswear tailoring through a feminine lens. The beige version, with dropped shoulders and voluminous lapels, balanced power with relaxed elegance, while the red shone with emotional heat—its structured silhouette reflecting the tension between reason and passion.

Dreams and Form — Strength in the Details

As the show progressed, the atmosphere grew more ethereal. A cape-back dress in Lyon lace and an empire gown in Paris net embodied a goddess-like grace—soft yet unyielding. Their stripped-down purity and clarity of form paradoxically emphasized strength and mystery.

Further elevating the collection were its jewelry and shoes. Bold metal earrings and necklaces linked with square motifs added a sense of mature coolness beyond minimal elegance. Footwear, meanwhile, fused craftsmanship with playfulness—fringed heels made of layered flower petals and pearls, and sandals with straps reminiscent of Japanese geta reinterpreted traditional design with modern precision and wit.

The finale presented a bed-sheet dress embroidered with avalanche roses and a mint duchess satin sliced coat. Using bedding—the most intimate of materials—Burton transformed domestic softness into couture precision, creating a moment that transcended dressing itself and approached the sacred.

For Spring/Summer 2026, Sarah Burton’s Givenchy invites women to shed the “armor” they once wore to survive in a world that demanded strength, and instead to dress in a way that celebrates ease, authenticity, and freedom. Through her designs, Burton speaks without words—reminding us that femininity is not about protection, but about the beauty of embracing freedom and self-expression.
