On May 4, French luxury maison Louis Vuitton announced that it has appointed Olympic figure skater Alysa Liu as its new House Ambassador. Fresh off her historic achievements at the 2026 Winter Olympics, Liu has expanded her influence beyond sports, leveraging her individuality and expressive presence to make an impact across culture. Her appointment marks a natural progression in her evolving career.
At just 20 years old, Liu made history by becoming the first American woman in 24 years to win an individual Olympic gold medal in figure skating. She also secured gold in the team event, further establishing her global presence. Beyond her athletic accomplishments, her distinctive style—including her signature striped hair and uninhibited self-expression—has positioned her as a new kind of Gen Z athlete.
Commenting on the appointment, Louis Vuitton Women’s Artistic Director Nicolas Ghesquière stated: “Alysa Liu embodies the modern Louis Vuitton Woman — confident, creative, and utterly fearless. Her dynamic energy and individuality resonate with the House’s spirit, and she inspires us all to embrace audacity in every form.”
Liu’s relationship with the house has been gradually developing prior to this announcement. She attended the Women’s Fall/Winter 2026 show during Paris Fashion Week, seated front row, and has also appeared in Louis Vuitton looks on major red carpets, including the Vanity Fair Oscar Party—demonstrating a strong alignment with the brand.

From Sport to Culture
Liu has gained attention not only for her technical excellence, but also for performances that express her individuality. This approach naturally extends into fashion, where she uses clothing and style as a way to communicate her personality and perspective.
With this appointment, Liu emerges as a symbol of a new generation that moves fluidly between sport and fashion. The increasing presence of athletes in luxury branding reflects a broader shift—one that values not just achievements, but also personal narratives and individuality.
Figures like Liu, who seamlessly connect sport, fashion, and self-expression, represent a new kind of cultural influence. For brands, this goes beyond reaching new audiences; it is about embodying a sense of modernity and cultural relevance.
While the relationship between sport and fashion is not new, its meaning is clearly evolving. Liu’s appointment offers a compelling example of this shift.
