Moschino Appoints Davide Renne as New Creative Director

Moschino has announced the appointment of Davide Renne as its new creative director.

Jeremy Scott, the previous creative director of Moschino, stepped down after the Fall-Winter 2023-24 collection at Milan Fashion Week. He has been a part of the Maison’s legacy since 2013, ending nearly a decade of creative dedication

The new Creative Director Renne is a designer from Tuscany. After graduating from the prestigious fashion school Polimoda in Florence, he worked for four years with Alessandro Dell’Acqua, founder of No.21, and then worked for Alessandro Michele and Frida Giannini. He has been working at Gucci for the past 20 years, leading the team as head designer of womenswear.

Renne will officially take on the post as the fourth creative director in Moschino’s history on November 1, overseeing the women’s, men’s, and accessories for the brand’s main line.

Reflecting on the history of the Maison as created by Franco Moschino, Renne said of his appointment in a statement: “Franco Moschino had a nickname for his design studio: la sala giochi — the playroom,” “This resonates deeply with me: what fashion — Italian fashion especially, and the House of Moschino most of all, can achieve with its enormous power should be accomplished with a sense of play, of joy.”

“We have all been impressed by Davide’s extremely sophisticated vision of fashion’s power to create a living dialogue with the world around us, and by his deep understanding of the House of Moschino’s legacy and of our codes,” said Massimo Ferretti, Aeffe’s executive chairman. “We are confident that he will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Moschino, a global house with an Italian heart, and a truly unique DNA in the luxury industry.”

It was only a few weeks ago that Renne’s name was being bandied about amidst a string of creative director departures in the industry. Most recently, Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen ended her 26-year tenure and was replaced by Seán McGirr. Also last week, Chemena Kamali was named CHLOÉ’s new creative director. In July of this year, Walter Chiapponi, creative director of TOD’S, announced his retirement, leaving the position still vacant.

Renne’s new Moschino brand will make its debut at Milan Fashion Week 2024 Fall/Winter in February.
