Japanese legendry fashion designer, Issey Miyake dies at 84 

The Miyake Design Studio announced that Issey Miyake, a Japanese fashion designer who was known as the prince of pleats passed away on Aug 5th, in Tokyo at age 84. He had liver cancer.

Issey Miyake was born in Hiroshima, Japan. After He graduated from Tamagawa University, he moved to Paris to learn about the traditional design of Haute couture. In 1971, he started his own brand ‘’Issey Miyake’’ and then debuted Paris Collection in 1973.

After that, his creation of clothes which were inspired by traditions such as ‘’a single piece of cloth’’ attracted many people’s attention, and his representative work ‘’Pleats Please’’ received high acclaim for its sophisticated design with fine folds all over.

Since then, Mr. Miyake’s novel works that break down the preconceived notions of clothing have been highly acclaimed, and have been exhibited in museums around the world.

His death has received many messages of condolences from all over the world and this loss will definitely impact the next fashion industry.
