Featured works were created by London-based artist and photographer Campbell Addy and artist, set designer, and spatial designer Ibby Njoya.
Through photography, color, movement, and spatial installation, the exhibition offers a fresh perspective on the BASICS series, highlighting both the timeless appeal of the garments and the creativity that underpins them.
Two Creative Voices Shaping Contemporary Culture
Campbell Addy is internationally recognized for his work exploring themes of identity, beauty, and self-expression. Since graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2016, he has contributed to leading publications including Vogue and The Wall Street Journal. In 2021, he was named to Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list and is widely regarded as one of the most influential photographers working in fashion today.
Ibby Njoya, meanwhile, is known for his sculptural approach to spatial design and image-making. Working across fashion, architecture, and art, he creates immersive environments that explore the relationship between identity and form. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with renowned photographers including Paolo Roversi, Rafael Pavarotti, and Campbell Addy.
Revisiting the Brand’s Foundations Through Art
Since its debut in the 1990s, PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE has continued to evolve while remaining committed to creating clothing that seamlessly integrates into everyday life. At the heart of that vision is the BASICS series, a collection that has transcended generations and remained a defining element of the brand.
“PLEASE” offers a contemporary reexamination of this iconic series through the lens of art and creative expression. By bringing together fashion, photography, and spatial design, the exhibition creates a dialogue that extends beyond the boundaries of fashion itself, offering new discoveries for both longtime admirers of the brand and first-time visitors alike.
